Working to support adults, and their families, who have complex social needs and are more vulnerable as a result of mental health difficulties, exclusion, or diminished capacity, you’ll maximise their potential to live independently.

With case work focusing on the most complex and challenging adult cases with mental health difficulties, you’ll ensure that adults and their families are safeguarded. You’ll share ideas and best practice, providing specialist advice as part of a multi-disciplinary team sharing your knowledge as a Social Worker.

The Team

The Mental health and wellbeing team comprise of Social Workers, Community Support Workers, an Occupational Therapist and an Employment Adviser.

We provide support to the residents of Essex with their mental wellbeing within a social context. We provide the interventions that directly support to improve people’s mental health to meet their outcomes, build confidence, coping strategies and resilience.

Joining the Mental Health Wellbeing team at Essex means you will be working in a supportive and innovative environment enabling you to develop your own ideas to make meaningful changes to the service user’s lives. Working with community groups, family and carers you will ensure advocacy for people with Mental Health difficulties. This role enables you to build meaningful relationships with our service users and make a difference in their lives.

The team will be countywide community based with a mixture of working from home, local office-based working and working directly with adults in community settings.

About You

To apply you should be a qualified social worker with a current Social Work England registration. You’ll bring at least 1 year’s social work experience, evidence of continuing professional development, and capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards. Ideally you will have experience working in mental health.

In addition to this, experience in delivering direct work within your practice is desirable as the role involves providing the interventions to support meeting the person’s outcomes.

This role involves travelling around Essex. A driving licence and car - or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means - is essential.

As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service.
