The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Revenues Assistant to join our Finance team.

The Role:

Supporting with all Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debtor activities, you will maintain databases, undertake inspections of business and domestic properties to ensure the correct mapping and billing and deal with general and complex queries both over the phone and in person.

You will also maintain discretionary relief, discounts and exemptions, issue demand notices, statements and other correspondence and provide general assistance to the Revenues team.


  • Maintain the Council Tax and National Non Domestic Rate person/property database, to ensure it is as current as information allows.
  • Where required, undertake inspections of Business and Domestic properties to assist with correct mapping and billing of premises/domestic properties.
  • Maintain discretionary relief, discounts and exemptions.
  • Deal with telephone and counter enquiries of both a general and complex nature.
  • Process correspondence and information received.
  • Issue and despatch demand notices, statements and other correspondence.
  • To provide assistance with all other Revenues duties as required.
  • To support, contribute and comply with quality practices as described within the Corporate Quality Policy and as directed by management.
  • To apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of employment and service delivery.
  • To advise Revenues & Recovery Manager, if at any time the above duties and responsibilities cannot be properly performed.
  • To be mindful of individuals who may be identified as vulnerable and to notify such persons to the Vulnerable Welfare team
  • Any other associated duties, as detailed by the Head of Service or their representative.

The Experience You Will Bring:

  • You will have demonstrable experience in using processing and document management systems such as Capita Academy, Northgate Workflow, Civica, Open Revenues, Anite or similar, as well as administration experience.
  • You will have excellent numeracy, literacy and organisational skills and be able to deliver excellent customer service in a high-pressured environment.
  • You will demonstrate strong communication skills when dealing with customer enquiries in person, over the phone or by email.
  • You will have the ability to make property inspections, therefore a full driving license is required.
