Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Rochford District Councils to recruit a Planning Administrator on a 3-month temporary basis. Please note this position is being offered on 20-25 hours per week on a hybrid basis.
- The focus of this role will be to support 3 corporate managers with diary management and to assist with the filing and processing of customer correspondence in the planning service. You will be responsible for general administrative tasks such as responding to basic emails, electronic filling etc.
Accountabilities
- Assist in ensuring the Development Management Team fulfils the commitments, mission and objectives of Planning Services and the Council as a whole.
- Ensuring that all procedures are followed and that all targets are met.
- To be acquainted with the various Acts relating to the Council's statutory responsibilities regarding planning matters, including the relevant legislation, orders, circulars and policies.
- Keeping abreast with changes in such legislation and Government advice and making the necessary changes to practice and procedures arising therefrom.
- Maintaining a 'customer' orientated approach including fostering good relations with stakeholders and local interest groups, including Parish Councils.
- Dealing with the validation and administration associated with all planning applications and enforcement complaints.
- Dealing with members of the public regarding planning enquiries, as appropriate.
- Drafting letters on planning and other applications and associated matters.

- Articulate and able to communicate effectively
- Ability to work under pressure and achieve deadlines
- Thorough and well organised
- Computer literate with sound working knowledge of Microsoft packages, including word, powerpoint, outlook DMS Preferably iDOX
- Ideally you will have experience of working in Development Management in a local authority planning office
