Braintree District Council are looking for a dedicated and proactive Asylum Support Officer to join our Housing and Communities team and play a vital role in supporting the successful resettlement and integration of asylum seekers within the Braintree District.

Our Asylum Support Officer will contribute to the effective delivery of the Afghan Resettlement and wider asylum support programmes. You will be the first point of contact for all enquiries relating to asylum seekers dispersed in Braintree District.

This role requires someone who brings compassion, professionalism, and strong organisational skills, as you will support asylum seekers with integration into the local community through home visits, helping with school placements, English classes, employment guidance and signpost to other relevant services.

You will assist the Resettlement Officer to collate information, update records, maintain local and national databases, and organise interpretation and translation services where necessary. Your work will help ensure compliance, strengthen grant management, and promote positive community integration.

To succeed in this role, you will have excellent IT and customer service skills, experience of working in an office environment, and the ability to use databases to record and monitor information. You will also have an understanding of issues relating to equality and diversity, along with good problem-solving skills and a solution-focused approach.

With the ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment, you will be organised and pro-active and able to work on your own initiative.
