Job Purpose:
Adult Community Learning (ACL) is ECC’s provider of lifelong learning experiences for Essex residents.
ACL offers qualifications to help people move nearer to, enter or progress within the workplace or gain skills to enhance life chances. The service focuses many of its programmes and activities on the hardest to reach communities within Essex. ACL learners have access to a diverse range of accredited and non-accredited courses which encourage creativity, healthy lifestyles, social inclusion and engagement.
Invigilators support the Exams Team with the day-to-day operation of examinations, ensuring all set procedures are adhered to, supporting candidates during the examination and maintaining examination conditions.
- Part Time role – 'as and when' contract, with an hourly salary of £13.30 Per Hour
- Location – Basildon, Colchester, Clacton-On-Sea, and Chelmsford, must be willing and able to travel across all sites – mileage paid at 45p per mile
Service/Functional Accountabilities:
- Contributing to setting up examination venues by laying out stationery, setting up computerised testing equipment and handling examination papers in accordance with the outlined procedures.
- Supporting candidates prior to the start of examinations, directing them to their seats and informing them about exam procedures including possessions permitted in examination venues.
- Referring any queries regarding learner entry to the examination to the exams officer.
- Checking learner ID to establish legitimacy of entry to the examination in progress.
- Responsible for ensuring that examination conditions are maintained throughout the examination and checking attendance.
- Ensuring learners with access arrangements are given the specified support throughout the examinations.
- Invigilating during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures.
- Responsible for recording details of any absences from the examination room, including short term.
- Escorting candidates from the examination venue during the examinations and supervising them whilst outside the examination venue.
- Collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination, preparing envelopes, in accordance with strict procedures.
- Administering computer examined procedures to end and submit scores, advising candidates of results if immediately available.
- Supervising candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring equipment or stationery is not removed without authorisation.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience of working or studying in a higher education environment is desirable.
- An understanding of examination processes is desirable.
- Effective oral/written communication skills.
- Good numeracy skills essential.
- Basic IT literacy essential.
- Evidence of accuracy and attention to detail with a flexible approach to work.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines essential.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to be diplomatic, gain the confidence and treat information confidentially.
- Sufficient, flexible availability to assist with morning and evening examinations.

Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle. Mileage paid at 45p per mile.
