Here in Essex, we continue to raise the bar about practice and our investment in our workforce is second to none. It’s an exciting time to join us. Not only have we been named Outstanding by Ofsted, we are delighted and at the same time humbled to have been crowned Social Work Employer of the Year for the second time in the last three years!

Essex County Council (ECC) is one of the largest and most dynamic local authorities in the UK, serving a population of 2 million residents, and has a very successful track record of delivering transformational change. ECC anticipated change was needed in the public sector and has worked to deliver better quality at lower cost. We have an ambitious transformation agenda – one with the scope to reach every part of the council. We are changing the way we think, the way we work, and the ways in which we deliver our services. We are committed to becoming a place where individuals, partners and communities feel proud to play their role and genuinely want to belong. We’re immensely proud of our flexible working options.

A Glimpse into Our World: Children with Disabilities (CWD)

CWD is part of the Children and Young People with Disabilities (CYPWD) service in North Essex. We work with children 0-16 with disabilities. We are a strong team with committed workers who continually strive to support the children we work with.

Our Children and Young People with Disabilities Service is on a mission to empower children and young adults up to 25 years old who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, along with their families. The service operates from offices strategically located in Basildon, Chelmsford, Colchester, and Harlow, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all. Within these offices, our dedicated teams collaborate seamlessly to provide an integrated and holistic service.

Meet Our Dynamic Teams:

  • 0 – 15 Social Care: Caring for the youngest members of our community.
  • 16 – 25 Social Care: Supporting the transition into adulthood.
  • Occupational Therapy (OT): Enhancing lives through tailored therapies.
  • Preparing for Adulthood (PFA’s): Guiding our youth on the path to independence.

But we're not stopping there. Our high-needs further education team is on a mission to break down barriers. They process applications for additional funding, making sure learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities have the opportunity to access post-16 college provision.
