Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Tendring District Council to recruit two full time Technical Grants Officers on 6 month basis. Please note you will be expected to complete site visits a minimum of 3 days per week.
The Role:
The Housing Grants Team are looking for experienced Technical Grant Officers to join our small but busy team improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable residents living in our district. We deliver a range of financial assistance schemes to improve housing conditions, including Disabled Facilities Grants for which we are the largest provider of funding in Essex. The service provided can make a real difference to people living with disabilities and therefore can be very rewarding.
Reporting to the Housing Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities relating to the provision of Disabled Facilities Grants and other financial assistance are met.
Duties typically include feasibility visits to agree adaptations, measuring up properties, checking cases for approval & payment, checking quality of work, and liaising with clients, contractors, Occupational Therapists, and other stakeholders.
Accountabilities:
- Assisting in planning and delivering Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG), and other financial assistance schemes
- Dealing with grant and adaptation requests, inspections and actions as required
- To provide technical support within the Housing and Environmental Health department as directed and in accordance with department and personal performance standards and targets
- Scheduling and auditing of DFG & other financial assistance applications including the pricing of works and means testing applicants in accordance with relevant legislation
The Experience You Will Bring:
- Proven experience of working in the building trade in either a practical, technical or professional capacity
- The ability to draft specifications and schedule of works, check quotations and verify details for benefit claims
- Ideally you will possess a relevant construction related qualification e.g City and Guilds, NVQ, BTEC, HNC or equivalent
- Knowledge of Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, Housing Act 2004 and Environment Protection Act 1990 would be an advantage
- Applicants need to be able to demonstrate a sound background in dealing with the public, especially vulnerable residents, and have experience of housing, grants, adaptations or construction related fields
You will need to be motivated, organised, and committed to deliver exceptional customer service. You need to be able to work on your own and as part of our very tight knit group and we have hybrid and flexible working available. It is essential that you have a full UK driving license and access to a car for inspection purposes as the work covers the entirety of the Tendring District area.
