The Role 

This job is a key role in the successful delivery of our waste and recycling services for residents in both East and North Hertfordshire.

The post holder will be engaging with residents to assist with queries on our waste and recycling services and support the delivery and collection of containers as required. 

Also undertaking performance and asset monitoring for Refuse and Recycling collections, Street Cleansing and other service requirements to ensure residents are receiving an excellent service.

Approximately 75% of working time will be lone working, performed within East and North Hertfordshire districts.

Accountabilities:

  • Check agreed standards and perform inspections of work, in line with government guidance / code of practice, carried out by contractors, as directed by the Waste Contracts Manager, for waste, recycling, street cleansing, and keep accurate records of the findings and standards achieved.
  • Undertake inspections of assets and undertake local environmental quality surveys such as cleanliness and bin condition at the direction of the Waste Contracts Manager.
  • Undertake administrative functions associated with various waste management IT systems including recording appropriate data for the Waste Contract Manager.
  • Record incidences of graffiti identified following set procedures for notifying property owners.
  • Undertake surveys relating Key Performance Indicator inspections and kerbside recycling participation levels, accurately recording data.
  • Assess waste and recycling resource requirements for new residences/developments for refuse and recycling facilities advising developers of standards and requirements in line with published policy and advice.
  • Undertake door to door surveys and refuse/recycling audits as required.
  • Facilitate the delivery and collection of containers to residents as required.
  • Provide advice regarding waste operations and duty of care documentation as required.
  • Provide advice and information to the public and other organisations on waste, recycling, and street cleansing.
  • To assist in weekend promotional activities as required.

Experience You Will Bring:

  • Excellent keyboard skills and use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
  • Basic knowledge of waste management functions.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety at work
  • Experience of IT. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel
  • Ability to navigate and prioritise route planning for visits and audits
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Proactive attitude and willing to initiate change
  • Experience of working in a waste management environment
  • Experience of working with contractors
