Basildon Borough Council is proud to be a place of opportunity, where community contribution and hard work are the foundations of success. We are committed to creating a borough where children and young people thrive, public spaces are safe and clean, and our town centres are regenerated to reflect the aspirations of our residents. Our vision is underpinned by high-quality public services and infrastructure that support inclusive growth and wellbeing.

As a forward-thinking and ambitious local authority, Basildon is at the forefront of innovation in public service delivery. We are not only responding to change we are leading it. Our commitment to transformation is rooted in our desire to improve lives and build resilient communities.

We are now seeking an exceptional leader to join us as Assistant Director Housing Services, a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high-performing housing services across the borough. This includes strategic oversight of housing management, homelessness and rough sleeping, and the development of our allocations scheme. You will ensure that all statutory duties are met and that services are aligned with the Council's broader objectives.

As the Council's lead advisor on housing services, including housing management, the private rented sector, home ownership, and homelessness, you will drive service excellence, lead high-performing teams, and foster strong partnerships to deliver positive outcomes for our residents.

You will bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in social housing, preferably within local government.
  • A strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, including experience working with the Regulator of Social Housing or similar.
  • Strategic and operational expertise in housing services, with a track record of delivering customer-focused, compliant, and innovative solutions.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and resident engagement.

In line with the Regulator of Social Housing's Competence and Conduct Standard, you will hold a Level 5 qualification or be working towards completion by 2028.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact in a borough that is ambitious for its future and committed to delivering for its communities
