This position has been classed as an anywhere worker role but has an expectation that the successful candidate will attend the office, in Chelmsford, at least one day per month, with the remaining time allowing for remote working if desired, in line with the organisation’s needs. 

Please note that this is a Fixed Term Contract / Secondment opportunity till the 31st of March 2026.

The Opportunity 

Join an award-winning team to support delivery of projects, communication campaigns, waste hierarchy initiatives and partnership activities. You will contribute to activities within the Waste Reduction Behaviour Change programme and Love Essex work streams to ensure ambitious waste prevention and increased recycling goals are met through lasting behaviour change. 

We are seeking an organised, creative, and highly motivated individual to join our team and support us to engage with Essex audiences and encourage sustainable behaviours.

Accountabilities 

  • Create engaging content for a range of communication channels in line with brand guidelines. 
  • Day to day management, audience development, monitoring and evaluation of Love Essex channels including social media, website, and electronic newsletter. 
  • Support delivery of interventions and monitor the effectiveness and impact of communications and activities. 
  • Ensure customer enquiries, information requests and transactions are managed to a high quality and within agreed timescales. 
  • Work in a project environment where you will be expected to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and partners. 
  • Contribute to team events, learning, admin tasks, and research. 

The Experience You Will Bring 

Essential 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience. 
  • Advanced skills in written and oral communication. Confident in engaging with a broad variety of audiences via a range of channels and within brand guidelines. 
  • Microsoft Outlook, TEAMS, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint knowledge and experience of using at an intermediate level. 
  • Professional experience in use of social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube), scheduling platforms (e.g. Hootsuite) and data analysis platforms (Google Analytics). Experience of website editing using a content management system.  

Desirable 

  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.  
  • Experience of working in a political environment, skills in understanding and responding to different perspectives and taking a cross organisational and cross-partner perspective.  
  • A broad interest and understanding of waste management, environmental issues and wider circular economy issues. 
  • Understanding of other relevant software applications e.g. image or video editing or mapping software.
