Damp and Mould Inspector

Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Basildon Council to recruit a temporary Damp and Mould Inspector on a 5-month temporary basis in their Property, Asset Management & Development team.
Job Purpose
The Damp and Mould Inspector will be responsible for inspecting properties, diagnosing damp and mould and ensuring compliance with legislation and Awaab’s Law.
The main responsibilities:
- To undertake technical surveys on the housing stock, including leasehold flats, to identify and make accurate diagnosis of complex repairs, including specifying materials, work content trades and place the work with suitable contractor, managing the project/programme to produce solutions that can be over a prolonged period
- Responsible to undertake 100% post inspections of works completed for exclusions by the partnering contractors on a monthly basis, ensuring that works have been carried out to the correct quality and standard required. Undertaken by the Council’s responsive repairs contractors and to arrange for rectification of any sub-standard works identified.
- To arrange for any refund or credit note for any overcharging of works that is identified
The Experience You Will Bring:
- Experience and knowledge of the building maintenance industry including relevant experience in the inspection of domestic property and the remedy of maintenance problems
- Strong knowledge of housing disrepair legislation and Awaab’s Law.
- Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM regulations and Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple inspections and completion of reports to meet strict deadlines under pressure.
- Good level of IT skills, including word, Excel and design software
- Experience of developing and sustaining effective working relationships and communications, both internally and externally, with a range of contacts
