The Opportunity:

Environmental health encompasses all the external factors that affect human health and wellbeing. This includes issues relating to the air we breathe, the impact of the houses and conditions we live in, and the interactions we have with one another.

This is a dynamic and constantly changing area of work and an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Housing & Pollution team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team player to undertake the full range of duties working in a geographical area of the District. We would be willing to consider applications from final year Environmental Health students or those requiring practical experience.

The Housing & Pollution specialist will undertake our HMO licensing, inspect properties for HHSRS compliance and carry out appropriate enforcement, respond to complaints of nuisance, filthy and verminous premises, permitted processes and contaminated land, and serving notices as necessary.

The role will also respond to planning and licensing consultations and play an active role in delivering any public health initiatives that we are involved in.

Experience:

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent in Environmental Health or can demonstrate that you are actively working towards your qualification. Career grade candidates’ pay will be capped at scale point 29 (currently £37,675) until fully qualified.

If you are not an already qualified EHO, who is registered with the CIEH (formerly EHRB registration), to be eligible for consideration for this role you must be within the final year of your accredited degree qualification AND have completed and passed your “EHP portfolio”.
