Come and support your local community by joining Essex County Councils' School Crossing Patrol Team as a Mobile School Crossing Patrol Officer.

We are looking for a punctual and reliable individual, who is approachable and enjoys engaging with the public.

Each position is for 5 hours per week retainer paid, plus duty hours worked; with a holiday pay element included. You will need to be available to work during the 39 weeks of the academic year. Mileage and travel time is paid for this role in accordance to ECC’s Travel and Subsistence policy.

Responsibilities:

  • To have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
  • Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site in order to identify any problems. Report problems and defects to supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements requested when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensuring that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.

Access to your own vehicle and business insurance is a must, as you will be required to travel to and from crossing sites, as required.

Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
