About the role

Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Basildon Council to recruit into their temporary Parks and Countryside Warden role.

Please note, this role is full-time on a temporary contract until April 2025 

Working hours: 36.25 per week; 07:30am – 15:30pm,

Closing Date: Monday 17th February 2025 

The role

  • To assist the Countryside Supervisor in improving public appreciation and appropriate use of the countryside whilst protecting and enhancing the more sensitive ecological areas.
  • The Parks and Countryside Warden is employed full time but will need to work hours according to the needs of the service.

Duties

  • To work as part of a team or alone undertaking all maintenance and repairs within Countryside Services as set out within the department’s management plans
  • To undertake varied horticultural and conservation operations on council owned land for example, grass cutting, pruning and litter clearance including the use of tractor and tractor mounted equipment.
  • To assist in the overseeing of the Health and Safety of volunteers and the public using the conservation areas and ensuring compliance with legislation and accepted methods of good practice.
  • To assist with open days and events at all Parks and Countryside sites.
  • To patrol sites and report incidents and accidents.
  • To attend meetings involving Parks and Countryside staff.
  • When necessary, cover annual leave periods of other team members at weekends.
  • To undertake all duties within the framework of equal opportunities.
  • Where necessary, undertake site maintenance, habitat conservation, repair work and minor constructions, ensuring they follow high standards of best practice and conform to Health and Safety and nature conservation requirements.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post. These other duties must be equivalent to or below the salary and status of the role and, where appropriate, under the Equality Act 2010, due consideration must be given to any employees with a “protected characteristic”.
  • You must cooperate in all matters relating to Health and Safety and implement all procedures for your job role. The identification of Health and Safety related risks within the working environment must be highlighted to your management.
  • Must have a full driving licence.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Demonstrable experience of manual outdoor work.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Full manual driving licence. (Please note that adaptations to the Council’s vehicle being used would be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010).
