Join a Council Shaping the Future of Public Services

Essex Digital Service is transforming how Essex County Council delivers services, making it easier and safer for people to get things done, whether they're colleagues or residents. We design and deliver modern, user-focused digital solutions that support everything from social care and education to transport and the environment. Our vision is to build digitally empowered, 21st-century services that work across teams and boundaries, delivering real value to the people who rely on them every day.

In this technically demanding role, you’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across Essex Digital Service to configure, optimise, and support ECC’s cloud and infrastructure platforms. As Senior Platform and Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll help ensure ECC’s digital environment is secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs - supporting service continuity, operational resilience, and innovation. You’ll partner with teams and suppliers to deliver high-quality infrastructure services, resolve complex incidents, and shape the adoption of modern technologies that improve performance and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Essex Digital Service to deploy and optimise endpoint and cloud services that are secure, resilient, and aligned with ECC’s strategic goals.
  • Support ECC’s transition from hybrid domain joined devices to a fully modern, cloud‑native Entra ID joined estate, ensuring secure and consistent user experiences across a large device estate.
  • Contribute to the management, deployment, and lifecycle of Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, Autopatch and modern endpoint management capabilities.
  • Implement Conditional Access policies and Zero Trust-aligned configurations.
  • Maintain and rationalise Group Policy Objects (GPOs), supporting the transition to cloud-based management and security baselines.
  • Provide senior technical input during critical incidents, collaborating with virtual teams to restore services and minimise disruption.
  • Raise and manage change requests, offering expert technical insight to the Change Advisory Board and ensuring secure, auditable implementation.
The Experience You Will Bring:
  • Experience in Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, Autopatch, Configuration Manager (MCM/SCCM), and modern endpoint management.
  • Working knowledge of operating system controls, troubleshooting and migration to modern cloud-based controls.
  • Proven experience supporting large, distributed environments - ideally within local government or another regulated public-sector setting.
  • Strong PowerShell skills with proven track record of automation, configuration, and reporting.
  • Experience supporting large‑scale transitions to modern management, including cloud‑native identity, device provisioning, and policy enforcement.
  • Confidence working in environments undergoing significant transformation, where legacy and modern tooling coexist during transition phases.
  • Ability to produce governance-ready documentation, technical standards, and change controls suitable for a public-sector environment.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant IT subject, with evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality services in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments.
