The Role

Do you want a key management role at the heart of democracy? In this role you will work in partnership with the Returning Officer as the Deputy to plan, manage and successfully deliver various elections and referenda.

The Opportunity

As the Deputy Electoral Registration Officer, you will be responsible for fulfilling the statutory duties in relation to electoral registration. You will have responsibility for the operational management and co-ordination of the Team to deliver the varied range of this service.

Accountabilities

To be responsible for the organisation, planning, implementation and administration of all types of elections and referenda including Business Improvement District polls in compliance with legislation, Electoral Commission (EC) Performance Standards and Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) guidance.

Devise detailed project plans and risk assessments for each electoral event. Including long term developmental projects. Determine the resources required to ensure the efficient running of the process. 

Recruitment, training, deployment and management of staff (both core and temporary) for all types of elections, referendums, polls and canvass. To manage the electoral budget and resources.

Submit necessary accounts to the Elections Claims Unit (ECU) and other outside bodies, by the required deadlines.

The Experience You Will Bring

You will need significant experience in the conduct of various elections and of dealing with the canvass and election registration process. Significant knowledge of the law and practice relating to electoral registration, elections, and forthcoming changes, is key to this role.

Experience of suggesting new ways of working to improve the service is desirable.
