Please note this role will be offered on a fixed-term contract or secondment basis until May 2026.

You will work as part of the Council’s Environment and Climate Action Programme. This program will deliver a suite of projects to address the impacts of climate change and the biodiversity crisis by building environmental resilience and capacity to meet those challenges, which are already inevitable between now and 2050.

Working as part of the Green Infrastructure and Sustainable Drainage team, the post holder will maintain the Essex Local Nature Partnership (LNP) and ensure its effective running. Coordinate an LNP Action Plan with broad cross-sector support, underpinned by Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) objectives. The postholder will report to the Chair of the Essex LNP Board and help to co-ordinate the development and delivery of the LNP’s ambition through.

  • Ensuring good collaboration and partnership working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver common objectives
  • The delivery of a LNRS and opportunity mapping

Accountabilities

Support the development and the delivery of the Essex LNP work programme.

Act as network coordinator for the partnership, by servicing the LNP Board; coordinating and contributing to LNP's working groups; co-ordinate the work of any task and finish groups as established by the Board, delivering tangible outputs and updating the work programme; organising, publicising and co-ordinating LNP stakeholder networking.

Formulate, develop and deliver effective project management methodologies to LNP projects. Ensuring resources are used effectively in the delivery of projects, meeting timescales, including financial and delivery reporting to managers.

Formulate, develop and deliver LNRS, opportunity mapping, projects and programmes.

Build strong networks at local and regional level for LNP, to deliver improved joint environmental outcomes. Work collaboratively with internal and external partners. Share best practice, explore opportunities for joint initiatives and identify cost saving through the delivery of multi-functional green and blue infrastructure.

Responsible for providing an intelligent client capability and keeping abreast of key issues and developing trends affecting the natural environment, including funding, planning, health and wellbeing, and business. Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the needs and concerns of stakeholder interests.

Contribute to or make funding applications, resulting in enhanced service delivery.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with all appropriate external and internal procurement procedures, finance and legal regulation and processes.

Develop and deliver effective communication across partners, stakeholders and the public. Maximise education and awareness, raising the importance of the LNP vision.

 

Skills, knowledge and experience

Educated to degree level in a relevant environmental subject, such as ecology, nature conservation or land management or equivalent by experience. Confident in the use of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), such as QGIS software.

Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area with significant understanding of sustainability and environmental issues and their implications for Essex. A good existing knowledge of Essex, its habitats and its key sites would also be an advantage.

Ability to develop strong working relationships with stakeholders, public, private and voluntary sector bodies which encourage collaborative and partnership objectives.

Establish effective LNP communication and publicity activities, including the management and development of the website and use of social and other media as appropriate.

Experience of managing change to deliver improvements in efficiency and customer service in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. This includes knowledge and experience of working within a legal/political framework.

Significant experience of a relevant environment-based field, with a deep understanding of project management and experience with evidence of successful project outcomes and delivery of environmental initiatives.

Good understanding and knowledge of key environmental agencies and partners’ remit in relation to our natural environment. This includes coastal and flood issues, natural environment and ecology, waste and recycling, sustainability, energy, planning and climate change.

Good knowledge and understanding of regional, national and international environment-based external funding programmes.

 

Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
