What do you find most fulfilling about your role as a Seasonal Ceremony Officer?
What I find most fulfilling in this role is the immediate connection you can build with the couple. Within minutes of meeting them, you have the chance to ease their worries, answer their questions, and offer genuine reassurance. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness that shift—when they begin to relax, open up, and chat with you as if you’ve known each other for years. To know that your presence can be so supportive, and to see its impact almost instantly, is truly special.
Can you describe a memorable moment from a ceremony that stood out to you?
I’ve experienced many memorable moments, but one that truly stands out is a wedding at a small community venue. The couple were surrounded by a modest gathering of loved ones, but they didn’t have anyone to take photos. So, we stepped in as impromptu photographers, making sure everyone could be part of the memories. Their gratitude was heartwarming—it was beautiful to witness how such a simple, unscripted gesture could mean so much. In the end, we gave them a few photographs to cherish for life.
The encouragement you receive here genuinely boosts your confidence and inner belief.
How do you handle unexpected events or emotions that arise during a ceremony?
My advice? Prepare as thoroughly as you can. Preparation brings calm, and calm allows you to handle unexpected emotions or events with clarity and confidence. In that state, you can be the steady support that the occasion—or the people involved—may need. And remember, you’re not alone; the Registrar is always by your side, offering support and guidance. With so many seasoned professionals in the role, there’s very little they haven’t encountered before.
Have you learned anything surprising about yourself or others through your work?
What’s truly surprised and delighted me in this role is how incredibly welcoming every single person has been. From day one, it’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside such kind and supportive colleagues — something I hadn’t experienced in previous workplaces. The encouragement you receive here genuinely boosts your confidence and inner belief.
What advice would you give to someone new to the role of a Seasonal Ceremony officer?
Prepare early. Giving yourself plenty of time means fewer last-minute surprises and a calmer, more confident presence on the day. And don’t forget to savour every ceremony. It’s a genuine honour to play such a meaningful role in a couple’s milestone moment—and you’ve truly got the best seat in the house.
