My Procurement Journey - Amanda - Working for Essex

My Procurement Journey – Amanda

We have an extensive variety of procurement opportunities here at Essex County Council, offering ways of working to any level of experience, with fantastic prospects for progression. We spoke with Amanda about her experience within our procurement team, and how she has been able to develop with us.

My name is Amanda Lisulo and I joined Essex County Council (ECC) in November 2020 as a Procurement Assistant Manager within the people Services procurement team.

I graduated from University in 2010 with a first-class Law Degree and commenced my procurement career in 2012. After gaining 8 years’ experience within the private sector, I was keen for a move into the public sector to expand and develop my existing procurement skills and experience.

Since joining ECC in 2020 my procurement capabilities have grown extensively. Within the ECC, there is a dedicated Strategy and Assurance Team who provide a database of procurement guidance documents, templates and policies and procedures. Having access to this has been extremely beneficial to my learning. These materials provide a great tool to assist with building new skills and gaining in depth understanding of policies and procedures.

The procurement team supports and encourages career development and provides access to a wide range of training courses and materials. After 18 months within my Procurement Assistant Manager role, I was promoted to a Procurement Manager.

During my short time with ECC, I have gained significant experience in sourcing and contract management. My ECC colleagues are supportive and there is a positive work atmosphere where colleagues are happy to help each other.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in working for ECC to submit an application. Since joining ECC in 2020, my career has progressed within a short space of time and is a very enjoyable place to work.
