Our People and Organisation Development team had the pleasure of working with Riana in early June, where she covered a wide range of aspects of the function as part of a week’s work experience, including assisting with interviews, supporting with the launch of an early careers programme and investing time into her career and personal development.

Read what Riana had to say about her time with us below:

What have you enjoyed most about your week’s work experience?

I am very grateful to the people around me who have supported and welcomed me, taken the time to explain their roles to me and allowed me to help with events that have taken place this week. The part I have enjoyed the most about working at ECC is that I have been able to see what it is like working in such a positive office environment as I have felt so welcomed by each team I have worked with.

What tasks have you undertaken that have broadened your perception of HR?

I have taken on the role of a Resourcing Administrator which has allowed me to assist with interviews, attended In-House training during an event, support with an Early Careers Programme launch, and work alongside colleagues to learn about their roles in HR/ OD/ Reward and Employee Relations.

Spending the week at the council has really widened my knowledge on the range of roles there are available in HR… I have really enjoyed my time here.

Has anything stood out as something you’d like to do in future, and why?

From this opportunity, I have taken a particular liking to the department of Employee Relations as I think it will suit my personality and fits in well with my current studies in Sixth Form.
